(Carnegie, Pennsylvania -- July 21, 1997) -- Applied Analytic Systems announced the release of version 2.0 of their 16-bit NeuroShell 2 components for Delphi 1.0 and the 32-bit components for Delphi 2.0/3.0 and C++ Builder. The new component set, renamed TNS2Server 2.0, replaces AAS’ TNeural component which encapsulates the functionality of Ward Systems Group’s NeuroShell 2 runtime DLL. The NeuroShell runtime DLL allows neural network developers to run trained networks from any Windows-based programming language which can call DLLs.

Used to address a variety of prediction, forecasting, and classification problems, NeuroShell 2 networks are designed and trained using data contained a spreadsheet (e.g., Excel or 1-2-3) or the built-in spreadsheet-like grid within the NeuroShell development environment. Once trained, developers can embed their networks into Windows applications and execute them using the royalty-free runtime DLL which ships with the NeuroShell 2 system. Interfacing the DLL to a Delphi program, of course, requires additional Object Pascal programming and some knowledge of C++. The TNS2Server components allow Delphi developers to run NeuroShell 2 networks within minutes of placing the component on their form using no C++ statements.

TNS2Server, along with the DLL, is capable of executing any network trained with the NeuroShell 2 package, including GMDH networks. Users only need to supply the name and path of the network ‘.def’ file and the network inputs. Two additional components are included in version 2.0. These are the TNS2ServerTable and TNS2ServerQuery components. These are BDE-enabled components which allow the user to specify fields from a database, and to process a single record, or an entire dataset through the trained network. A charting unit allows users to view the outputs graphically.

According to AI Systems Development Director, Jayant Singh, "Database developers will greatly benefit from the new components if they also use NeuroShell. The integration of appropriate neural network knowledge into a Delphi database system adds significant value to applications, and use of the TNS2Server components doesn’t require guru status either in Delphi/C++ or neural networks.’’

The TNS2Server component set is available directly from Applied Analytic Systems. It is intended for two groups: Delphi developers who wish to integrate neural network (NeuroShell) models into their applications, and for NeuroShell 2 developers who need a clean Windows-based interface for their trained systems (e.g., Delphi). The TNS2Server Set sells for $99 for a single-developer, and $199 for unlimited use by developers at a single location. Source code can be licensed for $79 additional. The component set requires Windows 3.1x with Delphi 1.0, or Windows 95 (or NT) with Delphi 2.0, 3.0, and the NeuroShell 2 Professional development system.

Founded in 1991, Applied Analytic Systems, Inc. is a decision technology consulting firm providing neural network and expert system based decision-aiding software development, analysis, modeling, and research services.
